Below please find a link to Stalking Victimization In The United States, the largest collection of data on stalking prevalence and behavior to date. The study was released in January, 2009 by the U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Statistics.
Some statistics about staking:
- 3.4 million people in the U.S. identified themselves as having been victims of stalking within the previous 12 months. That is an increase of almost 2 million since the 1998 study.
- 25% of participants reported that their stalker had used technology (e-mail 83% and IM 35%) to follow and harass them.
- 1 in 8 victims had lost time from work because they feared for their safety at work, and over 50% of victims had missed at least 5 days of work for reasons related to the stalking.
- 1 in 7 victims had moved with 12 months to protect themselves
- 130,000 victims had been fired or to asked to leave their place of employment specifically because of the stalking.
